Black Firsts: 4,000 Ground-Breaking and Pioneering Historical Events by Jesse Carney Smith
A testament to a rich but often overlooked part of history, this work
captures the stories of barrier-breaking African American pioneers in
all fields—arts, entertainment, business, civil rights, education,
government, invention, journalism, religion, science, sports, and more.
With hundreds of illustrations and a daily calendar of firsts, this
chronicle reveals stories of those who overcame adversity to emerge
triumphant and celebrates those who have won personal victories against
the forces arrayed against them. A vital collection of more than 4,000
entries, this book is proof that the celebration of African American
accomplishments is ongoing.

New Book Release: Perfect Homecoming
Perfect Homecoming by Sandra Sookoo
Sometimes the future meets us when we’re not looking.
Andrew Grabel is a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air and Space Force. It’s tradition for his family, so is never being home for Christmas. Though he longs to celebrate the holiday with all its feel good nostalgia, the reality of space travel doesn’t make that possible. Neither does an R & R stint on a far-flung space station since Christmas is unique to Earthlings.
Mira Nisirian is on Epsilon station for one reason only—to steal anything of value then get out for her next destination. She’s a thief and a criminal, and though she might dream of fitting in with Earth people and their culture, nothing can erase her Neptune origins or her real alien form. Choosing Andrew as her first victim is her first mistake…
…falling for him is the next. What’s more, Andrew’s constant talk of Christmas fascinates Mira. She covets the home she sees in his eyes. Andrew’s future outlook is shaken as he finds himself trying to convince her the Earth holiday is a state of mind, but Mira’s compulsion to share her truth might damage their budding relationship.

New Book Release: Run With the Moon
Run With the Moon by Diana DeRicci
Jamie Ness is homeless and on the run. After divulging his deepest, guarded secret, his father attacked him, which left no choice but for Jamie to leave everything behind he'd once known.
His greatest fear is that his father will realize the mistake he made in throwing away the only real income coming into their home and hunt for Jamie. Putting distance between his father and wherever he stops is his only priority. After walking for days, putting one foot in front of the other, it's impossible to turn down a hot meal when Chris Rose pulls up at his side on the outskirts of a town he doesn't know.
Offering the young man a helping hand is ingrained in Chris. Something to eat, a warm bed, and safety, even if he could only get Jamie to grudgingly agree to one night. He would have offered that and more to the young man with the shadowed eyes, except more trouble was looming for Jamie. It isn't just Jamie's dad that Jamie has to worry about, because there is nothing in his life that could have prepared him for Chris's secrets.

New Book Release: The Birth of the Palestinian Nation
The Birth of the Palestinian Nation: The Myth of the Deir Yassin Massacre by Uri Milstein
In the pre-dawn hours of April 9, 1948, men of the nascent Israeli state s underground defense organizations Etzel and Lehi converged on the Arab village of Deir Yassin. By the end of the day, many were dead, Deir Yassin was in Jewish hands, and the epic lies about the so-called massacre that happened there had begun. Deir Yassin is the most infamous episode of Israel s War of Independence. A basic founding myth in Palestinian culture, it serves as grounds for the claim that the Jews undertook genocide and mass deportation against the Palestinians in 1948. The continued Palestinian unwillingness to make peace with Israel stems in no small measure from the place that Deir Yassin holds in contemporary Palestinian consciousness. The Deir Yassin affair is also a founding myth of the new Israeli left, which casts doubt on the justification for the establishment and continued existence of the State of Israel as a Jewish national state. It is therefore not only a historic episode, but a very contemporary one. This meticulously researched book, based on archives and abundant eyewitness interviews, shows that there never was any massacre in Deir Yassin, explains the motivations of the various parties for the blood libel that sprang up around this affair, and probes its consequences. Uri Milstein brings to his exposition of the facts a lifetime of experience in Israeli military history and a keen eye for the truth.
